Montana State Spirit Squad

The Montana State Spirit Squad is considered a D1 sports team and is composed of the Mascot, Cheer, and Dance Team. Being on the team for four years has allowed me to become fully emersed in the culture and grow my knowledge as to what our followers want to see.

Online Culture

A feed post featuring the team during a football run-out with Moo Deng gained a lot of traction on the page by connecting with users through the use of a viral sensation. Keeping up with online culture and trends that are ever-changing acts as an opportunity to connect with users on a new level who might not have initially been interested in cheer. The post accumulated a near-record amount of shares for a feed post and had people talking about the post for days to come.

Capturing Unique Content

Learning how to use a DSLR camera took away the limitations of shooting specific content on the iPhone. Below is an array of photos shot at the latest cheer and dance clinic the team hosted. Taking photos for social media use opened the door to showcasing the team’s more intimate moments, giving the users “insider access” and a personal look as to what happens behind the scenes, not just at games but the work that goes into them.
